ETEC510 Project References

The SEL Corner was designed as a group project for the ETEC510 course at the UBC MET program. The concepts behind the SEL corner are rooted in academic research and was designed to fit current trends in educational technology. See below for our project assets, rationale, and APA formatted academic references.

SEL Corner Wheel
SEL CASEL Wheel

The SEL Corner "Wheel"

The SEL Corner is inspired by the CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning) framework. The CASEL wheel has 5 domains: Self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, relationship skills, and social awareness.

We took those 5 domains and expanded them into topics that addressed SEL learning for our project's audience of Grade 5 students in British Columbia. These 5 broad categories of SEL skills are all interrelated competencies and build on each other. We incorporated the 5 domains and added student-centered titles as analogies for the different domains to increase student interest.

Accessibility on this website

How we support web accessibility and neurodiverse learners.

SEL Corner is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of circumstance and ability. We aim to adhere as closely as possible to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0, Level AA), published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

These guidelines explain how to make Web content more accessible for people with disabilities. Conformance with these guidelines will help make the web more user friendly to everyone.

Whilst SEL Corner strives to adhere to the guidelines and standards for accessibility, it is not always possible to do so in all areas of the website and we are currently working to achieve this.

Be aware that due to the dynamic nature of the website, minor issues may occasionally occur as it is updated regularly. We are continually seeking out solutions that will bring all areas of the site up to the same level of overall web accessibility.

If you have any comments and or suggestions relating to improving the accessibility of our site, please don't hesitate to contact us at SELCorner2023@gmail.com. Your feedback will help us make improvements.
